Crisis Response

The Director of Counseling and Advocacy and trained school counselors serve as the key members for crisis response in the district. They provide support to individuals by helping them deal with feelings, identify resources, as well as promote healthy grieving. Other professionals who may serve as part of the District Crisis Response Team include school psychologists and counselors from Norman community agencies.

Members of the response team work with school administrators to assist staff in coping with a crisis situation, to help minimize the stress experienced by students, and to facilitate as normal a school routine as possible while dealing with the crisis aftermath. Members of the response team remain at the site as long as needed seeing students and/or staff to help them cope.

988

988 is the three-digit phone number to call in a mental health crisis, whether that is thoughts of suicide, substance abuse issues or other mental health problems, like depression or anxiety.

Calls are answered by an in-state crisis call center to address and de-escalate mental health crises in the moment and serve as an entry point for Oklahomans to get connected with other mental health resources.
