Kristyn Erickson named the 2024 NPS Teacher of the Year

NORMAN, OK (April 12, 2024) — Norman Public Schools announced tonight Kristyn Erickson as the district’s 2024 Teacher of the Year. Erickson is a first-grade teacher at Truman Primary. She has spent her entire teaching career at Norman Public Schools, starting in 2006 as a teacher’s assistant while still in college.

"Kristyn Erickson epitomizes the essence of teaching excellence. Her unwavering dedication to her students, coupled with her innovative approach to education, sets her apart as a truly exceptional educator,” said Superintendent Dr. Nick Migliorino. “Kristyn goes above and beyond to create meaningful learning experiences, leveraging both classroom resources and community connections to enrich her students' educational journey. She embodies the perfect blend of passion, professionalism, and talent, making her an invaluable asset to our school district."

Erickson was selected through a competitive process, coordinated by the district’s Staff Development Committee. After being selected as the Teacher of the Year for Truman Primary, she submitted a comprehensive portfolio, participated in various interviews and a video that showcased her teaching skills and philosophy. She was one of four finalists up for the award and was crowned during the district's annual Celebration of Excellence event.

Experienced educators, along with newcomers to the profession, were also recognized during the celebration. The district’s Rookie Teacher of the Year, Nick Alvarez, accepted the award as a first-year seventh-grade social studies teacher at Alcott Middle School while Abby Clark of Truman Primary was named the district’s Special Education Teacher of the Year.

The district named Mike Todd as the Lois K. Annesley Support Employee of the Year. Todd, Lead Utility Specialist for Central Services, was chosen from a group of six award-winning finalists from departments across the district.

District officials also honored Chuck Thompson, Managing Partner and Chairman of American Investment Group, with the 2024 Public Education Ambassador of the Year Award. Thompson has supported the district throughout the years through countless partnerships, including the Chamber of Commerce Partners in Education program and his work on the Yes for Kids capital improvement campaigns. Thompson currently serves as the chair of the Oklahoma Aviation Academy Advisory Board and on the district’s financial committee.
