NORMAN, OK (August 7, 2024) — Norman Public Schools (NPS) unveiled the name of the auditorium inside the Center for Arts and Learning. The space is now called the Benson Auditorium, named after Dr. Brad Benson, former NPS Director of Fine Arts. Benson along with NPS Fine Arts educators, family and friends attended a ceremony to celebrate the new name Wednesday night.
Benson dedicated 44 years to NPS, serving as Director of Fine Arts for 22 years. His career was marked by a passionate advocacy for arts education and numerous professional accolades, including the Governor's Arts Award for Arts in Education.
"Naming this auditorium after Dr. Benson is a fitting tribute to his decades of service and dedication to arts education in Norman. This state-of-the-art space will carry forward Dr. Benson's legacy, inspiring future generations of students and educators,” said Superintendent Dr. Nick Migliorino. “This auditorium represents an exciting opportunity for the Norman community to be an integral part of NPS. We envision this space as a hub where our schools and community can come together, celebrate the arts, and create lasting partnerships that enrich the educational experience for all."
